Sam Cruickshank
Yoga Teacher
Having dipped his toe in various yoga waters since childhood, Sam began his regular Bikram practice in 2014, with the realisation that (a) with advancing years he could no longer take his physical, mental and spiritual health for granted (b) “my health mattered because I matter”, and (c) a daily 90 minute practice of the 26 & 2 is the most efficient, accessible and holistic way to take care of ourselves.
Acting on this realisation brought about a transformation in his life that he felt compelled to share this with as many people as possible. He therefore took his Bikram training with the prestigious Nordic Hot Yoga Academy in 2021, and has taught in multiple countries across Europe, where he has been privileged to share his passion for the transformative power of the Bikram method, a passion he seeks to communicate to every student, knowing that through this shared discipline, we can change ourselves and change the world; one class, one posture, one breath at a time.
Since then he has broadened his yoga studies to include certifications in Sukshma Vyayama (With Karuna Yoga Vidya Peetham based in Bangalore), and also Yin Yoga, Yoga Nidra, “The Science of Stretching, Inferno Hot Pilates, Yoga Sculpt, and Kettle Bells. He is also available for private bookings for reiki, Sports Massage, Soft Tissue Therapy and Myofascial Release. Sam is also a passionate advocate of the growing movement in “Yoga Sports”, has represented the UK internationally, and serves as President of GBYSF (Gret Britain Yoga Sports Federation)

Yoga Roots
“Yoga Roots” is a journey through the foundational elements of a holistic yoga practice, grounding and stabilising mind and body by use of traditional breathing techniques, dynamic and static postures, systematic application of internal energy locks and channels and, of course, meditation.
The class is built from various very traditional, ancient practices, put together in a fresh and invigorating way.
We always open with our signature “Earth Salutations”, a grounding, floor-based flow, which can be practised at any pace, thus providing a warmup that can be equally restorative or dynamic.
We then move on to explore movement with breath, very much modifying the practice to who is in the room; Definitely lots of stretching, hip opening, core stabilisation. One of the key principles here is that we are guiding the person, not teaching the posture. You will feel challenged; you will also feel safe and empowered. Sam offers helpful and sensitive adjustments for those who want them (consent is always requested before any adjustment), whilst keeping a close eye on everyone in the room and offering individual feedback to ensure everyone is working to the best of their abilities.
We end with a final deep relaxation to seal the practice, preparing you for whatever you will be doing next, whether it be another yoga class (26 &2 strongly encouraged), challenging work tasks, or simply a good night’s sleep.
Accessible, adaptable, often a little experimental, always somewhat playful.
You will leave not only inspired, energised and rejuvenated, but – more importantly – aware and present to who you are and who you really want to be.
