Who these classes are for:

Friendly small group yoga classes for gay men and their friends in-studio.   Yoga in the west is a predominantly female bodied experience, so these classes are for those who identify as men and is a safe space to explore how yoga can work for our physically different bodies, but also our different minds.

No prior experience is necessary, and the classes are friendly and fun. It's great if you've never done yoga before but have a reasonable degree of physical fitness, or if you have an existing practice but want an opportunity to develop and grow.

With several different styles to choose from there's something for everybody and every body!

Yoga for Gay Men and Friends with Matthew - Tuesday & Thursday 7pm (In-Studio only) - 75 mins

These classes are perfect if you've never done yoga before, or if you have an existing practice but want an opportunity to develop and grow.  Part flowing sequences and part static postures, in this class Matthew gives clear easy instructions in layman's language (no sanskrit or chanting in his classes), and we focus on key postures, breathing, developing strength, and balance.  You'll learn to connect mind and body and develop a deeper understanding of your own physicality.  No prior experience is necessary, and the class is friendly and fun.

Yoga for Gay Men and Friends with Paul - Saturday 10am (In-Studio only) - 60 mins

This class is be based loosely on the Rocket style yoga created by Larry Schultz.  Rocket yoga is based on the ashtanga sequence pimped out with inversions and arm balances for those wanting to deepen their practice. This is a medium to fast paced practice, with anything from one breath 1 to 5 breathes in each posture.

The lightheartedness in Rocket makes it an accessible style for many. Expectations are left at the door in a Rocket class, and movements on your mat take shape with curiosity and compassion. Many find Rocket to be a real confidence booster because less emphasis is placed on what shapes you are making and more on how it feels. You may find yourself flying into postures you’ve never tried before, or becoming more comfortable in one’s that always seemed intimidating. In a similar way to Ashtanga, your Rocket teacher will encourage you to stay with the breath as they guide you through a fast-paced practice. Half the challenge of the sequence is focussing the mind away from physical sensations in the body. When you do, the practice can become more of a moving meditation.

Yoga for Gay Men and Friends with Antonio - Sunday 2pm (In-Studio only) - 75 mins

Having trained in the Iyengar school of yoga Antonio's classes are focused on active alignment and posture.  His classes are accessible and fun and suitable for all levels of practice.
