About this session:
Kick off your shoes (literally), grab a board and enter the drawing room!
Roy Joseph Butler and Brewer Street Yoga have partnered to bring a fresh life drawing experience to Soho. Each month, a different art nude will provide the inspiration for 2 hours of drawing fun for all levels of ability.
Whether you’re someone who hasn’t drawn since they were a kid or a seasoned artist, these workshops will engage your creative spirit and give you the freedom to approach figurative drawing in an individual way. At every workshop, we start with 2-minute warm-ups that will encourage looking and creative mark making, gradually increasing the length of poses until a final 25 - 30 minutes. Half-way through, there’s a break to socialise, share your progress and refresh over complimentary tea and coffee. And at the end, there’s always time to celebrate achievements, learn from each other and share the inevitable surprises, drawings we never knew we were capable of.
Life Drawing at Brewer Street Yoga is an inclusive, body-positive experience that puts a premium on wellbeing and appreciating the human form in all its varieties. It’s hosted by Roy Joseph Butler, an artists’ model with over a decades’ experience in the craft and a co-founder of production house Figuration, a creative studio in visual storytelling that reveals stories that connect us with the world.
Drawing materials, A3 paper and drawing boards (not to mention the refreshments) are provided, and you can bring your own materials if you prefer. Paints are not allowed in the space. Some benches may be available, otherwise yoga mats and blocks are available for seating.
What you need:
-
You, yourself, your imagination and your creative spirit
-
A yoga mat or cushion if you prefer not to use the studio mat
-
Note that whilst the model will be naked, artists are required to remain clothed

Lateness:

How many students will there be?
This session is limited to 20 students.

Due to studio requirements, we are unable to have standard chair seating, instead offering seating on mats that both reflect the ethos of the yoga studio and are kind to the floors. There is also no step-free access. If you have any physical impairments or access needs please have a look at attending Life Drawing at the Starkers Academy, held every 3rd Friday in Crystal Palace.
